Many artists reference the natural world as a source of inspiration for color, texture, pattern and more. I am no exception. I look closely for colors that move me, color combinations that “pop”, patterns impossible to ignore. But I find source material in the built environment as well. I am intrigued by the patterns in fences, the intersection of walls and ceilings, the stains on concrete floors. Everything I have ever seen is in my mental storage room and I draw upon these images freely. I react with little conscious regard for the formal rules of art but assertively and spontaneously relying upon a life-time of training and experience. Each painting session is a burst of creativity with each painting informing the next.
